NeuromasEndoscopic Surgery for Heel PainWhen noninvasive therapy has failed and surgical intervention is required, Endoscopic release of the plantar fascia ligament is the least invasive, most advanced surgical technique available today. The procedure is performed through two small incisions less than 1cm in length on either side of the heel. Through these incisions, small instruments and a camera are placed within the heel. The ligament is visualized on a T.V. monitor, and the inner 2/3 of the ligament is released or cut. The procedure is performed in a hospital or surgery center setting under local anesthesia and I.V. sedation. Post-operatively patients are required to wear a lower leg walker or boot for the first 2 weeks. A surgical dressing is placed on the patient's foot at the time of the procedure and remains in place until the first post-op visit. At about the two week mark, the sutures are removed and the patient will transition back into comfortable walking shoes with functional orthotics. Further treatments including physical therapy may also be prescribed by the doctor based on the postoperative course. Consult your physician regarding a more detailed description of the pre and post operative course of treatment for this procedure as it pertains to your case. |
